“A country house gem but don’t tell everyone, OK…!”

This needs to be our little secret, otherwise it will get very over-subscribed and the price will go up!!
Bracken House occupies a very pastoral setting and a tranquil, peaceful, location. Great central position for moors and coast. Guy & Sue are your very genial hosts and as widely commented upon are most helpful and contribute greatly to a very relaxed stay. You are treated as a long lost family member ( my long-lost family members would not have been as well received!!)
We stayed two nights in mid August with our two kids who were surfing and I was a little concerned before arrival that drippy wet suits might provoke a sniffy reception ….not a bit of it. Space was cleared in the Victorian greenhouse for drying our beach things.
We had two rooms; both were beautifully presented with far reaching rural views and comfy beds…excellent choice of in-room beverages/biccies.
Breakfasts were hearty, piping hot and artistically presented ( you might have to restrain Guy on this point!) & accompanied with fresh fruit, toast, and cereal. All of a high quality and generous proportions.
The room rate is only marginally above a bog-standard B&B, yet you will definitely come away with a country house experience, not to mention the extremely friendly owners…but I must..thank you very much, Guy & Sue for a lovely break. Will be back next summer.

“Ultimate country house experience”

I stayed here for a week at the end of which I was most reluctant to leave, having been treated almost like a friend of the family rather than as a paying guest! Guy and Sue were the friendliest of hosts, nothing was ever too much trouble, and I can wholeheartedly endorse all the previous positive comments. Suffice to say, for the ultimate country house experience, I can thoroughly recommend a stay at Bracken House.

“Wonderful welcome to a warm and comfortable home”

We received an enthusiastic and friendly response to our enquiry for accommodation at short notice and a warm welcome on our arrival to Guy and Sue’s very comfortable home. More care couldn’t have been taken to look after us. Our room was extremely comfortable and equipped with tea-making facilities and fresh milk for the morning. It was very quiet and had a stunning view. We much enjoyed being able to have supper ‘at home’ and the rhubarb meringue pie was particular delicious using rhubarb fresh from the garden!

“Wonderful stay in peaceful location”

Thoroughly enjoyed a stay at Bracken House. We received a warm welcome from Guy and Sue who couldn’t have been more helpful. Breakfast was excellent and the rooms comfortable. Beds were superb and the bathrooms have been refurbished to an extremely high standard this year. A big thumbs up and wholehearted recommendation.

“Simply lovely”

From the off, the owners bent over backwards to make one feel welcome and were very flexible in regard to check-in time and nominating a time for the delicious cooked-to-order breakfast, including bread freshly baked on site, and preceded by a tasty fruit salad.

The house is a characterful and historical delight both inside and out, with picturesque views.
Lottie the pet Labrador is sweet, loving and obedient (the perfect dog?!).  I shall, without doubt, be returning!

“Perfect B & B experience”

Staying at Bracken House is everything you could wish from a B & B experience. Absolutely lovely house. Delightful, warm and thoughtful hosts. Beautiful, clean and comfortable room. Tea served in a pot with proper cups! And the breakfast truly puts the B into B & B – we can’t recommend it highly enough. Don’t hesitate, just book it.

“A tranquil retreat.”

I stayed with 3 teenagers and although Guy was away, Sue and her 2 children were most welcoming. After surfing each day, Sue offered to dry our towels and wet suits – nothing was ever too much trouble.  The rooms were spotless, with crisp white bed linen and sumptuous towels. Each furnished with interesting antiques, books and artefacts.  This is very much a relaxed family home offering B&B with style.
